About our Stables & Livery Yard
Welcome to Newton of Straloch Livery Yard, a little slice of horse heaven in north Aberdeenshire!
Established in 2008, we aim to provide a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a more natural lifestyle for horses. We are set in 100 acres of beautiful countryside just north of Newmachar surrounded by hedging and woodland which provide fantastic natural shelter. Most horses here live out all year round and we also offer assisted DIY stabled livery.
Riding
If hacking is your thing, we have our own shelter belts, woodlands and fields to ride in. There is plenty of interest with the trees changing every season and lots of wildlife to look out for including badgers, foxes, roe deer, buzzards, kites, woodpeckers and our summer friends, the swallows and housemartins. For those who want to go further afield there is unlimited hacking on quiet country roads. Our large outdoor 50 x 30m floodlit sand and rubber arena is ideal for practising your dressage moves or popping a few jumps. You can also book the school to have lessons with your own qualified and insured trainer.
What we offer
Our grass livery tariff is ideal for horses who live out all year in a herd. For those horses who prefer to be in overnight we have an assisted DIY stabled package offering spacious 14x12ft stables with rug racks, mats and auto drinkers. All the horses are checked daily and additional services such as taking in for vet and farrier appointments, feeding hard feeds and changing rugs are available.
We have a tack room with built in tack boxes and saddle racks, a rug storage room, a changing room/loo, spacious feed room and washing area with hose. One stable is kept free for everyone’s use for clipping, dentist and vet visits. Our large car park has plenty of space for trailer and box parking on hardstanding. For your peace of mind (and ours!) we have mains electric fencing, full insurance, we live on site and have a CCTV system.
Grazing
We limit the number of horses we have here so that we are able to provide year round grazing for our separate herds of mares and geldings. All our fields are rested and rotated so we don’t need to use inorganic fertilizer which is better for your horse and better for the environment. It also means that there is plenty of space for you as well as your horse. Restricted grazing is available as well as extra grass for those who need more. In the winter our own quality meadow hay or haylage is fed ad-lib in the fields.

Conveniently located just north of Newmachar, we are about 15 minutes drive from Dyce, Bridge of Don, Inverurie and Oldmeldrum. There are two large competition centres within 15 minutes drive in a horse box.
